How to Declutter Your Nightstand

   Clear the top and dump the drawers

   Sweep everything off the tabletop onto your bed and pull each drawer out completely. Seeing the whole pile at once stops you from making the same keep-or-toss decision twice.

   Sort into three piles

   Make a keep pile for things you touch after lights-out, a relocate pile for items that belong in another room, and a toss pile for trash and anything you have not used in a year.

   Wipe the drawer bottoms

   Vacuum crumbs and dust from the drawer corners, then wipe the surface with a damp cloth. A clean base makes it obvious when clutter starts creeping back.

   Cap the bedside essentials

   Allow only what you genuinely use within arm's reach of bed: lamp, charger, one book, lip balm, tissues. Anything beyond that competes for the same small surface.

   Give each item a fixed spot

   Assign the top drawer to daily items, the lower drawer to backup supplies, and the surface to three objects maximum. Fixed spots mean you can tidy it in ten seconds.

   Add a single catch-all

   Place one small tray or bowl on top for rings, hair ties, and coins. Emptying that one container weekly keeps the rest of the surface clear without effort.
