How to Organize Under-Bed Storage

   Measure the clearance first

   Measure from the floor to the lowest point of the bed frame at the tallest corner. Write it down and buy nothing until you know the exact height you are working with.

   Pull everything out and vacuum

   Empty the entire space, including the forgotten boxes at the back. Vacuum the floor and wipe down the frame so you are starting from a clean, dust-free base.

   Sort by how often you need it

   Split items into seasonal (used twice a year), occasional (used monthly), and archive (keepsakes and documents). Only the rarest categories earn this hard-to-reach space.

   Choose low-profile containers with lids

   Use rigid bins that fit the measured height with an inch to spare, and always with lids. Open baskets under a bed collect dust and let spiders move in.

   Place the least-used items furthest back

   Put archived items against the wall and monthly items near the open edge. You should never have to unload half the bed to reach something you need this week.

   Label the outward-facing side

   Write the contents on the side of each bin that faces the room, not the top. That way you can read every label by crouching down instead of pulling boxes out.
